The mission of the Nevada Weed Management Association is to facilitate the establishment of statewide vegetative aquatic and terrestrial invasive species control through education and legislation. As such, we host and support educational events, trainings, publications and other activities to further the knowledge and expertise of NWMA and the public.
2015 Medusahead Symposium and Nevada Weed Management Association Conference
The Nevada Weed Management Association (NWMA) hosted its 2015 conference in conjunction with a Medusahead Symposium, October 26-29, at the Nugget Hotel & Casino in Sparks, Nevada.
The Medusahead Symposium took place October 26-27. The first day of the Symposium consisted of presentations concerning medusahead and its environmental and economic impacts. Day two was a continuation of the first day’s discussions with a morning bus tour of medusahead infestations.
The NWMA Conference took place October 28-29. The theme for this event was “Catalyst for Change: Opening the Conversation for Changing Nevada’s Noxious Weed Program.” The Conference encompassed several presentations on topics including the politics of noxious weeds, greater sage-grouse and noxious weeds and the Healthy Habitats legislation. Presenters for these sessions were invited from throughout Nevada, as well as several neighboring states.
The NWMA Conference also offered several breakout sessions that allowed participants to earn continuing education units (CEUs) required for the renewal of applicator licenses. Breakout sessions included: Biology, Restoration and New Technologies; Mapping and GIS; Pesticides, New Chemicals, and Adjuvants; Integrated Pest Management; Laws and Regulations; Nevada Regional Updates.
